21 Years Of Giving With MySchool

"To celebrate 21 years of giving back, cardholders can nominate their favorite beneficiary or any other cause in their community."

For the past two years, I have worked with MySchool closely to help inform and enlighten South Africa about the incredible benefits associated with the simple swipe of your MySchool card when out and about shopping with your family.

This year, in celebration of their 21st anniversary, MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet has launched the ‘21 years of Giving Back’ campaign with R2.1 million to give away to 21 causes. Supporters are invited, until the end of February 2019, to nominate any South African charitable organisation that matters to them. In May, 21 winning beneficiary organisations will be chosen from the list of nominations to each receive R100 000, and the supporters who nominated them will each receive a R1 000 Woolies Giftcard.

To celebrate 21 years of giving back, cardholders can nominate their favourite beneficiary or any other cause in their community.

We want to encourage our supporters to also consider bringing local, smaller organisations doing heroic work in their communities into the fold; and for whom the giveaway of R100 000 can make a considerable difference,”

says MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet General Manager, Pieter Twine.

The 21 Years of Giving Back campaign is open to MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet supporters throughout the country. If you are not yet a cardholder, you can sign up for free at www.myschool.co.za or download the MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet App, nominate the cause that matters to you, and be part of the active citizenship our country needs.

As part of the MySchool 21 campaign, Milly, Gia and I visited the amazing team at Focus on Ithemba to get some insight around the incredible plans they have towards furthering ECD teacher training within their 10 partnering Pre-Schools. We visited one of the little schools and were able to spend some time with the little ones and chat to their very inspiring teacher about Focus on Ithemba’s Project Joy, which is sure to bring much more Joy to communities such as this that are in desperate need.

Focus on Ithemba’s mission is simple: To be a catalyst for contagious joy by providing bridges of hope for life-altering positive change by investing in children through quality education. The impact they have is enormous, and definitely, something Milly and I felt an instant connection with.

As a community we need to stop and look around us, we need to see the incredible people that are silently working in the background, doing incredible things for the community that we live in. We need to step up and make an effort to join a program like MySchool, where we can help towards great causes such as Focus on Ithemba, by doing something as simple as swiping a card everytime we shop.

As a society, we have become less caring toward others, and this is upsetting to see. Click here, to join the MySchool 21 campaign, and you too could be walking away with a R1 000 Woolies Giftcard.

Thank you to Tayla, Camilla and the rest of the incredible Focus on Ithemba team. Your work and efforts are contributing towards a better South Africa! Together we can make a world of a difference.
